Though a concert for the Goodfellows Club didn't raise as much money as organizers hoped, the event is being deemed a success.
The Executive Inn Rivermont raised $1,573 for Goodfellows with its second annual Rockin' for Kids concert on Nov. 30.
"It was a great success," Heath Eric, director of marketing for the hotel, said, but they "fell short on" their fundraising goal.
The concert raised about half of what it did last year. Eric said he believed they would raise more money by moving the show back a week.
In 2006, the concert was held the day after Thanksgiving, and the 2008 show has been scheduled for that date, Eric said. More than 500 people attended last year's performance.
"I don't want to take away the success this year," Eric said. "We're fully committed to (the event)."
He said he thinks the event could raise several thousand dollars in years to come, and he was pleased that the concert had raised about $4,500 in its first two years.
Fifty percent of the ticket price plus additional donations collected at the concert are being donated to Goodfellows.
Barry Carden, treasurer of the Goodfellows Club, said the organization was excited when the Executive Inn said it wanted to do something to help the club.
"It's just another way for us to increase the awareness of the Goodfellows Club throughout the entire community," he said.
Kaptain Crunch and the Cereal Killers, Until the Last, RUKKUS and August Christopher performed at the show.
"The response was phenomenal," Eric said.
The bands donated their time. More than 20 bands wanted to play at Rockin' for Kids this year, Eric said, and he's already had bands call about next year's performance.
"We'll put a good lineup on again," he said of the 2008 concert.
