She was a dedicated employee, always giving and striving to make everything work. She always worked hard to support and take care of her children whom she loved and cherished so very much. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Disney with her family, and playing volleyball with her sisters and friends.

He was a dedicated husband, father and brother. Joe loved his wife, family, the Lord, his church and word find puzzles.

H. Earl Rock, 86, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Gibson County, Indiana, son of the late Randall Estin and Iris Fern Willis Rock. He retired after 42 years as a heavy equipment operator from Peabody Surface Coal Mines. During his life with the coal mines, he ran many different machines and was considered one of the best in his trade. He was a wonderful Christian man and a member of Owensboro Christian Church. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, his caffeine-free Pepsi and his family. He was loved and considered Papaw by many.

He served in the Army on the Wetok Islands and went on to retire from Whirlpool after 36 years of service. George loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. She was born July 16, 1959, in Tell City, Indiana, to Gerald and Beverly Ruth Nugent Rice. Debbie was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church and was an assistant manager at O'Reilly Auto Parts before she became ill. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved her animals. Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Rice; and a brother Bobby Rice.

She enjoyed boating on the Green River, sewing and antiquing. Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Dale Hope, in 1997; and her mother, Thelma Hayden Collings, in 2003.

Rowena also was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Mayes; two children, Joseph Owen Mayes and Tana Kay Mayes; brothers George David Conrad and Harry Joseph Conrad Jr.; and sisters Josephine St. Clair and Juanita Strader.

David C. Cozart, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, at his residence. Mr. Cozart was born June 9, 1944, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late John Critcher and Lillian Blackburn Cozart. David was a 1962 graduate of Fitzgerald High School where he played all four years for FHS Purple Hurricanes football team. He continued his education at the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1966. He moved away for 30 years with his career as a department manager with the Swedish Match Co., and after his retirement, for the love of his wife and lifelong friends he returned to his hometown where he enjoyed playing golf, fishing and watching baseball. He loved to follow the University of Georgia football. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 99 in Fitzgerald. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and seeing different places. Mr. Cozart attended the First Baptist Church.

She was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Ferdinand, Indiana to the late Henry and Josephine (Bartley) Helming. Dolores was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Loogootee. She was a member of the Loogootee Ecumenical Choir and participated in the annual chili fundraiser. She loved to cook, especially for her family. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, word puzzles, spoiling her grandchildren and loved her sweet tea. She owned Belles and Beaus for 15 years in Jasper. It was her pride and joy.

Mildred Evelyn Carter Beck

Mildred Evelyn Carter Beck, 78, of Owensboro passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, after her long battle with cancer at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born July 22, 1937, in Hopkins County to the late Fon and Geneva Riggs Carter. Mildred was married to CSM (Ret) Harold D. Beck on July 9, 1962, and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. During their 53 year marriage, Mildred traveled extensively as an Army wife and was active in many organizations. She was instrumental in the effective operation of the 173D Airborne Brigade Waiting Wives Club on the US territory island of Okinawa as well as the Sergeants Major Wives Club at Ft. Campbell. She was an instrumental force in her husband's success and 25 year career in the Army, receiving a certificate of achievement for her support and service. She was also co-owner of B & B Wallcoverings until retirement with her husband in 1997. Mildred enjoyed camping, sewing, and watching UK Basketball, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Farmer (1972), two sons, Ricky Dale Farmer and Steven Earl Farmer, infant child, Donna, and two brothers, Dallas Evans and Carmol Evans.

Elma Catherine Alsip, 89, of Owensboro passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, at Heartford House. She was born Dec. 31, 1925, to the late Robert Lewis and Elizabeth Earl Macke in Beech Grove. Mrs. Alsip was formerly employed by General Electric, Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph, and Welborn's Florist and was a member of Concord Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and being outdoors especially fishing with her husband. Mrs. Alsip was preceded in death by her husband, Yewell C. Alsip on Feb. 1, 2009; a grandson, Gary Duane Alsip in 1970 and a brother, Charles Lewis.

Danny Wayne Jaquess, 71, of Owensboro died Saturday, July 25, 2015, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. A native of Indianapolis, he was born May 29, 1944, to the late William Howard Jaquess and Clara Tucker Jaquess. He was a graduate of Butler University and was a retired manager from Hobby Lobby. Danny was a member of the Tri-State Corvette Club, the Corvette Lovers Vette Club, and the Grand Sport Owners Registry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Jeanne Miller Jaquess on Oct. 28, 2013.

SACRAMENTO — James "Jim" V. Woodburn, 78, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at his residence. Jim was born March 24, 1937, in Sacramento and was a farmer and horseman. He was a member of the Sacramento Baptist Church, a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder Association and an Army veteran. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin M. and Stella Rhoades Woodburn and siblings Charles Woodburn, Barbara Ingram and Helen Vinson.

Norma Lee Ridenour was born Feb. 26, 1936, in McLean County to the late John Leslie and Birdie Williams Ridenour and was married to Garnett Underwood on Dec. 23, 1953. Norma worked as a clerk at several different stores but was primarily a full-time mother and grandmother. She was a member of Livermore General Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing.

ELBA — Pearl M. Thompson, 82, of Elba died Friday, July, 24, 2015, at her home. Pearl Magdeline Dant was born April 16, 1933, in McLean County to the late A.G. and Opal Sutton Dant and was married to Robert Ural Thompson. Pearl retired from GE in Owensboro, was a lifelong member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and really enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Thompson, on Jan. 1, 2006; a son Robert Glenn Thompson on Dec. 21, 1963; and a daughter Beverly Jean Thompson on Oct. 23, 2003.

HARTFORD — Frank Carpenter, 82, of Hartford passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1932, in English, son of the late Francis Marion Carpenter Sr. and Minnie E. Patton Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter retired from Peabody Coal Co. Sinclair Surface Mines, Drakesboro. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and UMWA 1432, Central City. Frank served for 11 years on the Beaver Dam City Council, United We Stand America and the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean conflict. Frank was an avid NASCAR and U of L fan, loved to fish and camp on the river and always had a garden. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer L. Martin, in September 1995; a baby brother, Jerry Don Carpenter, in October 1994; and foster parents Jesse and Vera Daniel.

Margaret B. Hutchinson, 93, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Daviess County to the late Herman and Mary Frances Yeckering Green. Margaret retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital after 17 years of service. She was a member of Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church for more than 50 years. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers and gardening. Most of all she valued her time with family. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ural Bartley in 1967; her husband of 44 years, Clarence "Gene" Hutchinson in 2014; sons, John Bartley and Larry Bartley Sr.; and brothers, Henry, Herbert and Joseph Green.

Gary G. Cavitt, 68, of Owensboro died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Gary was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Owensboro to the late Glenn Jones and Tillie Shown Cavitt. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and a retired insurance agent. An Owensboro High School graduate, Cavitt played on the 1964 OHS state baseball championship team. After high school, he graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he also played baseball. He always had a love for baseball having coached the American Legion team for over 10 years. He enjoyed traveling, the beach, his pool, a Pepsi, and he always had a peppermint. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Loving Williamson Cavitt on Jan. 17, 2012.

She was born April 8, 1942, in Daviess County, daughter of Philip and Juanita Brown Smeathers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother in 2000 and her father in 2001; a great-grandson, Matthew David Johnson, in December 2012; and a stepson, Mickey Frakes, on July 17, 2015.

William S. Miles, 94, of Owensboro died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Owensboro, son of the late Paul Swain and Catherine Miles. He was a farmer and co-owner of Miles Farm Supply. William was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wells Miles, on Sept. 10, 2009.

Genon F. Kasinger, 68, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Daviess County, daughter of the late J.P. and Georgia Mae Roberts. Genon was a dedicated homemaker and an active member of Salvation Army Church where she was involved in many children's programs and taught Sunday school. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and knitting blankets, sweaters, etc., for friends and family.

Benjamin Algene 'Al' Johnston

Benjamin Algene "Al" Johnston, 83, of Owensboro passed away Monday, July 20, 2015. He was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Webster County and attended Madisonville High School. After leaving school, he married the love of his life, Marie Cunningham Johnston. Shortly after the marriage he left Madisonville to fight in the Korean War. Later, he graduated from the School of Mechanical Arts in Evansville while working full time at Smith's Tool and Die. He moved to Owensboro in 1962, worked as a production manager at Kentucky Electronics (Kentron) and later was production manager at Premium Allied Tool Inc.

Michael Anthony Murphy

Michael Anthony Murphy, 58, of Owensboro passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 21, 1957, in Jefferson County, son of the late Frank J. and Anna Mae Murphy. Mike accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 29 and attended Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He was the former owner of Golfer's Paradise, worked at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital for 16 years and managed Batteries Plus for several years until he retired. He was a member and president of the Owensboro Isotopes R/C Airplane Club and was a former member of the Thruston-Philpot Volunteer Fire Department where he served as assistant chief. Mike had been in the Boy Scouts where he became an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He enjoyed listening to Gaither Gospel music and telling funny stories in which he always had plenty to tell. Mike also was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Alan Murphy, on July 16, 1989.

Guy E. Moore

Guy E. Moore, 83, of Danville, formerly of Owensboro where he lived most of his life, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015. He moved to Danville two years ago to be closer to his family. Guy was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Warren County, son of the late Roy E. and Mary Ellen Noel Moore. He worked as an engineer for General Electric and MPD until his retirement. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Hopper, on May 13, 2009.

He was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Greenville, the son of the late Judge Franklin Jenkins and Yvonda Groves Jenkins Hagmann. Doug was employed by Baptist Health in Madisonville where he worked in plant operations for 10 years. He was of the Baptist faith. Doug loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ann Jenkins, on Oct. 4, 2010; and two brothers, David Jenkins and Edward Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Higdon and Therese Barr Higdon. He also was reunited with his first wife, Joan Rita Whelan Higdon; two sisters, Faye Higdon and Claudette Zoglmann; and his brother, Larry Higdon.

James Richard Oexmann, 94, of Owensboro passed Sunday, July 19, 2015, at his home in Lexington. He was born on Nov. 3, 1920, as the sole child of Elizabeth Oexmann. Richard graduated from Owensboro Senior High, served as an officer in France in World War II, graduated from University of Indiana and completed his law degree at University of Louisville. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He combined his law practice with a career as a builder/developer in Owensboro.

Dr. James H. Callis, 89, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015, at his home. He was born on May 20, 1926, in Hanson, to the late Henry and Vaneta Callis. Dr. Callis graduated from Hanson High School and Western Kentucky University, where he played basketball for Ed Diddle. His undergraduate school was interrupted to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Dr. Callis finished his undergraduate degree at WKU and entered the University of Louisville Medical School. After graduating, Dr. Callis established a practice in Owensboro, where he served this community for more than 50 years.

She retired from Harold's Dry Cleaners and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Indiana. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed going to dances. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Hawkins, in 1999; a daughter, Tammy Royal; and a brother, Donald Ray Hall.

Bill was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and proud of the fact that he served his country. He retired in 2002 as a machinist from General Electric Small Motors Division in Owensboro and was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed being outdoors, was a NASCAR fan, a UK basketball fan, a huge jokester and he never met a stranger. He was member of St. Columba Catholic Church and loved spending time with his family and friends and traveling with his wife.

William Bernard "Buddy" Schrecker, 89, of Owensboro went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, surrounded by his children, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born July 15, 1926, in Daviess County, son of the late Herman and Lottie Page Schrecker. He retired from Commonwealth Aluminum after 25-plus years. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathy Lindsey; and siblings Paul Schrecker, Herman Schrecker, "Cotton" Schrecker, Maureen Elliott, Stuart Schrecker and George Schrecker.

ISLAND — Willie Fulkerson, 65, of Island died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at his home. William Edward Fulkerson was born Oct. 23, 1949, in Owensboro, son of the late Harold Eugene and Virginia Eva Gilmore Fulkerson. He married the former Katrina Ann Everly on Feb. 21, 1980. Willie was an auto body repairman for Wester Body Shop in Powderly and attended Livermore General Baptist Church. He was a member of Island Lodge 743 F&AM and enjoyed NASCAR. Willie also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Bridget Cobb.

Mrs. Edith Parks, 56, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015, after a very short battle with cancer. Edith was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Hartford to Johnny Voyles and Kay Carson. Edith was a former employee of Western Kentucky Gas (Atmos), and Wal-Mart. She groomed dogs and loved all animals, crafts and cross stitch.

He retired from American Tobacco Co. after more than 30 years of service. John was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed UK basketball. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda F. Jones in 2001.

HAWESVILLE — Robert N. "Bob" Gray, 74, of Hawesville passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at his home. Bob was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Hawesville, son of the late Doris and Pauline Haycraft Gray. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and retired from Commonwealth Aluminum. Bob was a veteran of the Air Force. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Gray.

John T. Eaves Sr.

POWDERLY — John T. Eaves Sr., 98, of Powderly died at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. Mr. Eaves was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Muhlenberg County. He was a coal miner for 46 years and was a lifetime member of UMWA. He was a member of Powderly United Methodist Church for 61 years. He caught the biggest fish and grew the biggest sweet potatoes. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Fred Eaves and Ernest G. Eaves; and sisters Marie Moore, Anna Jean Cosby and Mattie E. Byers.

Ruth M. Stinnett Livers

Ruth M. Stinnett Livers, 92, of Owensboro went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 13, 2015, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Owensboro, daughter of the late Jack and Rosa Bailey Stinnett. Over the years, she had been employed by General Electric Co. and Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital, had been an Avon representative and she and her husband had owned and operated a craft shop. She was of the Christian faith. Ruth served as president of the Mattingly School PTA and was a member of the Civitan Club. She loved UK basketball, fishing and camping and also loved crafts and ceramics. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Livers, in 2000; two sons, Dale Poole and Jimmy Poole; a daughter, Connie Hall; two grandsons, Jason Livers and Chris Poole; a brother, Roy Stinnett; and a sister, Magdaline Stewart.

She enjoyed bowling and loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and she loved cats. Wilma was a good woman and had a heart of gold. Wilma also was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Terrell and Kemp, Orlo and Windsor O'Neal; and sisters Sue O'Neal and Kay Stewart.

Dr. David Nelson

Dr. David Nelson, Southern Baptist minister and retired senior pastor of First Baptist Church, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at his home at the age of 88. Dr. Nelson was born in Shannon, Mississippi, a son of the late Rev. Charles and Tallulah Willie Grant Nelson. Following his graduation from John Herbert Phillips High School in Birmingham in 1943, he served in the United States Army Air Force as an aviation cadet until 1945 and as a member of the Army Air Force Reserve until 1948. Dr. Nelson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Samford University in 1949. He then entered the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, from which he received the degrees of Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Theology. His pastoral career included serving in Louisville as pastor of Vine Street Baptist Chapel from 1949 until 1955 and Highland Baptist Church from 1955 until 1961. In 1961, he became pastor of First Baptist Church in Owensboro, a position he held for 31 years until his retirement. Following his retirement he served a number of churches as interim pastor.

Ralph Herman Ashworth

Ralph Herman Ashworth, 95, of Owensboro went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10, 2015. Ralph was born April 12, 1920, in Evansville, son of the late Martin and Anora Quinn Ashworth. Mr. Ashworth retired as an electronic service tech with Sears after 20 years of employment. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mr. Ashworth received the Purple Heart for his service with the Army during World War II. Ralph loved to dance, listen to gospel and country music and loved to read.

Mildred Rita Cissell Bivins

ORLANDO, Fla. — Mildred Rita Cissell Bivins, 91, of Orlando passed into eternal life Wednesday, July 8, 2015. She was a homemaker of eight children, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born in Owensboro, she married Joseph Lester Bivins in St. Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro and began her life as a military wife being stationed in various bases across the United States. She engaged in active roles in her children's lives by volunteering in their schools. She moved to Central Florida in 1961 and volunteered at St. James Catholic Cathedral and School as a Eucharistic minister and substitute teacher.

She was been a devoted pastor's wife for the past 28 years and a dedicated certified preschool teacher at Greenville Elementary School for the past 15 years.
