For two decades, the garden has hosted this event. It has been held in a number of places, including the garden’s Cottage in the Garden, Settle United Methodist Church’s Renewal and Outreach Center, individuals’ homes and Owensboro Police Department’s building on Ninth Street.
After a couple of years away from the garden, this year’s event returns to WKBG at 25 Carter Road.
“We wanted to return home,” said Susie Tyler, the garden’s director.
Soup Day for Kids at the Garden will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A minimum donation of $10 per person is suggested. All proceeds go to Goodfellows.
“We’re hoping everyone will be extremely generous,” Tyler said.
Six homemade favorites will be served: vegetable, vegetarian vegetable, chili, potato, chicken and rice and bean. Each bowl of soup comes with homemade dessert as well.
The garden’s conservatory and playhouse will be open Friday. And guests will be greeted with fresh wreaths on every door made by Owensboro High School art students.
Tables can be reserved by calling 270-852-8925, but reservations are not required.
Also, take-out orders are available. Guests who are unable to attend may buy a gallon of soup and desserts — enough to serve eight people — for a suggested minimum donation of $40. Call 270-852-8925 to place an order.
