The Goodfellows Club in Owensboro and Daviess County is always more visible during the holidays.

But with the arrival of Christmas Day, the 2016 Goodfellows Club Roll Call campaign comes to an end.

It also means the Goodfellows Club Candle that tracks the donations on the front lawn of the Messenger-Inquirer will soon be taken down.

But according to Lisa McCarty, Goodfellows board president, the charity’s purpose doesn’t stop on Dec. 25.

“Goodfellows giving doesn’t end when the holiday season is over,” McCarty said. “The club provides clothes, shoes and dental care for children throughout the year.”

Along with its annual Christmas party, Goodfellows Club responds at a moment’s notice in the event of emergencies such as tornadoes, floods and house fires. Local schools meet those special needs, and Goodfellows covers the costs.

McCarty said Goodfellows will continue to take donations even after the daily Roll Calls stop appearing in the Messenger-Inquirer. The final Roll Call will occur sometime in January.

“The Goodfellows Club accepts donations throughout the year,” she said. “The Goodfellows Club keeps giving because the needs of children are always there.”

Donations can be mailed to: Goodfellows Club, Messenger-Inquirer, Box 1480, Owensboro KY, 42302. Donations can also be dropped off at the Messenger-Inquirer office at 1401 Frederica St. Online donations can be made at goodfellowsclubofowensboro/contribute.
