OWENSBORO — Rowena Conrad Mayes, 86, of Owensboro died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.  She was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Rumsey to the late Joseph Harry and Josephine Amanda Conrad.  She grew up in McLean County and attended the Knobs Church of God.  She lived in Owensboro from 1950 until her death. She was a nurse assistant for 26 years, retiring from the Owensboro Health System after 11 years of service. Rowena was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Mayes; by two of her children, Joseph Owen Mayes and Tana Kay Mayes; brothers, George David Conrad and Harry Joseph Conrad, Jr.; and sisters, Josephine St. Clair and Juanita Strader.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie R. Mayes of Owensboro,  Bonnie J. Roby (Glen) of Mount Washington, Ky., and Lana F. Mayes of Owensboro; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Claudie Marvin Conrad of Madisonville; and a sister, Mary Frances Brown of Sacramento.

Services were held at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro.
