The Owensboro Police Department charged a homeless man with second-degree assault Monday for allegedly striking a man with a wooden plank in an altercation.
OPD reports say officers were called to a home in the 800 block of East 21st Street, and spoke with the occupant, Lloyd Northern. Reports say Northern told police Demetrius D. Swopes, 26, who is homeless, came to his residence and struck his fence. Reports say Northern told officers he went outside the fence to confront Swopes, and Swopes struck him several times, possibly with a two-by-four.
Swopes and Northern were acquaintances. Reports say Northern had injuries to his legs and arms but refused be taken to the hospital.
Swopes was arrested Saturday on an unrelated charge of second-degree burglary. Officers attempted to question Swopes in the Daviess County Detention Center, but Swopes refused.
Swopes is still being held in the jail.
