An adult male was shot dead early Sunday morning, according to a release from the Owensboro Police Department.

OPD responded about 12:11 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of West Ninth Street. There, officers found the victim dead from a single gunshot wound.

Andrew Boggess, OPD public information officer, said the weapon was not located at the scene, and detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

"We are still not releasing the name (of the victim) at this point because we are still trying to update family," Boggess said. "Detectives are still working on it. We have no suspects or anything at this point."

This homicide marks the seventh of this year and surpasses the total amount of homicides for 2018. It comes about a week after a shooting at a party June 1 killed two, 18-year-old Jasper Brown, 18, and Amarius Winstead, 16.

Detectives are asking anyone with additional information to call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
